Dogs, gotta love 'em

Fresh as a Daisy!!

Good fur-keeping is difficult when your pup is outside rolling around in whatever smells 'good.' I don't think any dog owner wishes for that to come into the house. So, let's get fluffy and clean together!

My dog is quite the adventurer, and is always looking for a nice perfume. So I have a routine for when something icky comes into the house.

I always have fur freshener spray that you can get at most pet stores. It is the perfect thing for a small odor. I also have doggy wipes incase she gets something on her. And, if something super nasty comes along, I give her a bath. I also try to bathe her at least once a month. Be careful with bathing because if your pooch soaks in suds too often, it could wash the natural oils right out of their fur, leaving a dry and brittle coat.

Now you and your four legged friend are set for the summer time!

Warm Weather Must-Haves For Your Pup

It is getting to be that time of the year where the sun is shining, and the heat is rising. This is a fun time for you and your four legged friend but, summer seems to have a catch when it comes to this.
A lot of dogs get very warm when they are active in the summer because they have a lot of fur. With some dogs, like double coated dogs
(which means they have an outer coat that protects them, and a soft inner coat), their soft inner and outer coat keep away the heat and keep in the cool, but even this process doesn't last very long. Today we are going to look at what we should have for these warmer days! Lets get started.
Dogs with long hair should have it cut down a little bit around the paws, neck, ears, and eyes. You might be wondering, "Why the neck?" well dogs let go of heat around their neck and head, and we don't want to trap it in fluff. Dogs with short hair are probably fine.
Some breeds of dogs are something called brachycephalic, that means that they have trouble with breathing if they are to cold or to warm. This occurs in "smushed-face" dogs like pugs and bulldogs.
If you and your dog enjoy swimming, it's time for some new pool toys!! Pool toys can be so fun for any dog, especially water dogs! You can get good toys at Petco and Target for good prices. Be careful with swimming if you have a thick boned dog like bulldogs because they sink like a rock in water.
Finally, exercise must-haves. No dog likes to stay inside all summer. For being outside in the heat, you should have some sort of water bottle or bowl if you are near drinking fountains. Also, it cant hurt to have a small fan for breaks and of course, some fun toys!
I hope you and your pup enjoy this beautiful weather coming
 our way!

Doggie Vacation!!!

It's finally getting nice outside! Planning a fun get away? Why not bring your four legged friend with you to soak up the sun! Vitamin D all around!

A good place to start when planning a vacation with your pup is to find a place to stay. Whether it be a friend's house or a hotel, double check to make sure your pup is welcome. Not all dogs are up for a long car or plane ride, so if that is the case, I would recommend something a little closer. Planning on flying? Great! Although, if you think your pal is going to be anxious in the storage area, I would choose a better way of transportation.

Now that we planned out where we are going and how we are getting there, lets go! I would pack water, relaxation pills (for your dog, make sure to check with vet first), also, it wouldn't hurt to cover the seat with a sheet just incase your pooch gets a little car sick, and maybe a blanket for naps :) Lets be sure to take breaks as needed!

Yay! We made it! Lets sniff around, kick back, and enjoy yourselves!

Looking for a fun easy toy? Your search comes to a paws here :) I have been looking around, and I found some great DIY dog toys made from things around the house!

1) A tee shirt wrapped water bottle! Take an old water bottle and tee shirt. Cut as much cloth as needed and wrap it around your bottle and tie at the end! (supervision is ideal)
2) A knotted tug toy made from a tee shirt! Take the ends of the tee shirt (the bottom corners, sleeves, and neck line) and tie them in tight knots! Enjoy.
3) Pupsicles! Fill an ice cube tray and stick treats in so they stick out of the top! Freeze and watch the slobber flow!
4) Got some old rope? Tie it up!
5) Braided tug toy! Cut a tee shirt into strips and braid them tightly!
6) A milk jug! (supervision is ideal)
7) A treat puzzle! Cut a medium slit in a tennis ball with a knife. Stick a treat in it and give it to your pup! They have to squeeze it a certain way to get the treat out.
I hope you find these awesome toys easy and fun to use for your pooch!! Have fun!

Let's Help!!!

Everybody enjoys doing something for others. Even if it is something so small, we love that feeling of making somebody else happy. Guess what? Dogs enjoy that too! There are so many fun charities that are great for you and your pooch to explore! I'm here to help you find the perfect one.
There are tons of great charities for you guys! The Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago has a great event called Bark in the Park, usually held in May! There is a walk/run event were you take a stroll by the river with your furry friends. Also, there are cool events and stands handing out prizes, treats, and samples of medicine and dog food! It is such a great experience! (great for bonding too)
If you want to donate to local shelters, or organizations, you can do that. There are great charities for organizations that help give surgeries, and low cost vet checkups for those in need of a helping paw. Not to mention, there are also fund raises for non-for profit organizations like PAWS Chicago. If you donate to them, you can help find a new home for ill or neglected animals.
Donating and charity work is such a fun way to help those in need! You and your pooch will love it.

Every dog has that touch, that feeling that lights up your heart. It's during those little moments when you feel like everything is okay. I believe, everybody needs a little dog touch in their lives.
Every now and then, you might feel like there is nothing to do. Well, let me tell you now, there is ALWAYS something to do with your four-legged pal. The possibilities are endless! For example, you guys can walk. Take a new route, walk all around town! Trust me, your dog will love you forever if you walk him. Feel like changing up your usual routine? There are always pet stores! Take a stroll around, pick up a special treat or toy! Have some extra play time! Every pooch appreciates a good work out. (It might be good for you too (; ) If it's warm, take a hike down by the river! If your dog does well off leash, let him run around in the water, you can run around too! Had a long day? Take a nap. You two could dose off and dream for hours together!
There is always something to do with your bestie!

Can Haves and Can't Haves for your dog.

Yes, dogs can eat food that we can eat. But, not every food is safe for your four legged friend. For instance, some foods, like chocolate, can be harmful or even fatal to our best friends. I know that we have all seen dogs enjoying an ice cream cone with their owners on TV, but, ice cream can cause digestive issues. Also, the dairy in ice cream is not very good for them because it might give them tummy aches. Some dogs can have trouble with wheat also. Sometimes turkey can hurt your dog as well. Always research different foods BEFORE you feed them to your dogs.
There are some foods that are very good for your dog. Carrots are very yummy. And great for you and your pal! Cooked or not, I bet your dog would enjoy them! Your dog may also enjoy peas! Peas are great for your puppy if you mash them up! There are many recipes that you can bake for your pooch. AllRecipes.com has a large selection of treats that you can bake for your pup!
Sometimes, as a special treat, you can hire a dog chef to bake your dog a perfect meal.
Your dog should love what he/she eats! And sometimes, it doesn't need to be from a can or bag. Next time your chopping up a veggie, look it up and maybe you and your pooch can enjoy a nice snack together!

Let's See Those Pearly Whites

Dental care is always a good thing to keep up with. Plaque and tarter build up can cause various diseases. It is not good for their heart either.

A few ways to find out if your dogs oral condition is serious:
1.check your dogs breath and think, "Does it smell good, okay, bad, or I just gagged, it was so terrible
2.look at his teeth and think, "Do your teeth look white, yellow, or brown
3.are there any broke teeth

If your dogs breath smells bad or you gagged, and if his teeth are yellow, brown, or broken, you should go to the vet for an oral exam.

If your dogs teeth have a little bit of plaque on them, it's not a big deal. Just brush your dogs teeth with dog toothpaste and a soft toothbrush every week:)
