Toys All Around

Your puppy's happiness is very important. Dogs need to play or express their energy and bound after a ball or tug on a rope. Play time is a great way for you and your dog to bond with each other! Every breed is different and every dog is different, so you just have to find whats perfect for your pooch! Some small dogs prefer chasing a ball more than tug of war because its something they are good at. Big dogs might like to play tug of war due to their strength. My dog likes both. She is very strong and light on her feet. A lot of dogs like to tear open stuffed toys so maybe that's not a good idea. But maybe your dog loves to just cuddle up with a big teddy bear like my friend Tanner would. Tanner was a Greater Swiss Mountain dog and a great friend of mine. He was a big dog and loved his stuffed animal monkey. So as you can see there is a lot to think about in the toy realm, but I'm sure you and your pooch can work something out ;D

How to Prepare for a New Dog or Puppy

Lots of people get dogs and are a little puzzled on their first day. Well I have some advice that might help you and your new pup out. It is always different depending on your dogs age, so lets start with the puppy age. If you get a puppy when it is very young you might have to house train him. House training is not always easy so check out my training tips for help. You also need to dog proof your home. Dog proofing your home means, no edible or dangerous things on a low shelf or floor. Your puppy might chew on your furniture during his teething stage. If you do not want this, I recommend bitter spray, and provide hard chew toys. Bitter spray is a spray that tastes and smells awful so it should keep your dog away. You should have at least one crate and 1 more bed than you have dog (if you have 1 dog than you would have 2 beds.) Always provide lot's of chew toys as well. Moving on to adult dogs. Still dog proof your home. Also start a daily routine so your dog will get used to getting up and doing things. A good schedule has some training sessions, play times, walks, feeding times, etc. A daily routine is like a guide to a healthy, happy, active, and smart dog. Unlike puppies, adult dogs should only eat 2 meals a day. Now last but never ever least, senior dogs. Now you might be thinking, "My dog is old so he doesn't need much." Well guess what?!? Senior dogs need walks, play times, and training as well. Just because they are old doesn't mean they can't move around. And there is one thing that goes for all dogs. They will mark their territory. During the first few weeks they will be sensitive, so don't be mad if your dog has an accident, because it is totally normal.

Daily Doggie Schedule

Every dog deserves an interactive and fun day. I recently started following a day to day schedule for me and my dog. So far we love it! On our schedule we have to complete two training sessions, check off our feeding, bathroom/walk times, and we also have play times. This schedule is curved around my school days so it's perfect. I strongly recommend a schedule because it will keep you and your pup happy and active without interrupting your daily routine, it just adds a healthy dose of interaction and fun to your pooch's day. This schedule might help you if you have a puppy or you recently adopted a dog, it will help your dog get adapted to a schedule that will soon be considered to your dog a daily routine. Brit and I love this schedule and if you try it out too, I hope you like it as well.

Which Food Is Better?

It all depends on the dog. Some dogs (like mine) have sensitive stomachs. My dog is sensitive to wheat so her food has little to no wheat in it. Maybe your dog is sensitive to lamb, don't buy lamb. If your dog has problems with his food look at the ingredients and see what seems more likely to be bothering him. If you have a good idea of what it is go and get new food, but bring the can of your last kind of food with you so you can compare ingredients. If that doesn't work I would call the vet because they will know what to do.

Dogstoria's Story

This is my dog Brit, she is a Brittney Spaniel mix. We got her in July of 2012. When I first saw her online I instantly wanted her. I had been wanting a dog for a long time and      she was the one. My father and I went to the Barker shop to say hi and there she was paws up on the door as happy as can be. We went to say hi and we loved her. I think the staff could tell and she came over and told us that Brit was on hold for 2 other families. We thought for sure we wouldn't get her. We left and a couple days later came back to look at another dog and the staff were happy to see us, they said both families dropped their hold when we left. We played with her again and we ended up in a room signing papers. We took her home and she fit right in. The reason I created this website is because I have learned so many cool things and I wanted to share it with every body. I hope you come back because I will be posting cool things that you don't want to miss.
